A 'Brindisi' is the Italian word for a 'Toast'. It is commonly used in Italy over the Christmas period and New Year.
Ironically, it was in the province of Brindisi in Puglia, that a 94 year old widower, feeling lonely over Christmas, called the emergency assistance number to request that the Italian police, the Carabinieri, joined him for a 'Brindisi'.
They were happy to oblige and spent some time with the pensioner listening to his stories and looking at photographs of his military service in Mantua with the Carabinieri force. Cin! Cin! (Cheers!)
