San Giorgio Bridge
It was on August 18th, 2018, that the Morandi Bridge in Genoa collapsed, a disaster that claimed 43 lives. On 3rd August, 2020, its replacement, the San Giorgio bridge was officially opened by Italian president, Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte. The new bridge's designer, famous Italian architect, Renzi Piano, was also present at the ceremony. The new bridge was built at a cost of just over 200 million euros, taking only 15 months, a record in Italy where these projects can take decades. Marco Bucci, the mayor of Genoa and the commissioner for the reconstruction, said that the bridge had been built at the "the right costs and the right way".
